One Of The World’s Most Mysterious Octopuses Has Been Caught On Video Eating

It’s one of the least-known members of the octopus family ― a creature so elusive that scientists weren’t even sure what it ate.

Until now.

A newly released video from one of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute’s remotely operated vehicles shows the seven-arm octopus,Haliphron atlanticus, snacking on a jellyfish.

“It looked as though Haliphron had not only made a meal of the jelly, but was hanging onto it, perhaps for defense or for help in catching prey,” the aquarium’s YouTube description said.

The aquarium said it’s only the third time its researchers have seen the octopus in 27 years.

“This species is rarely seen alive, and most of what is known about it came from specimens caught in trawl nets,” the organization said in a news release.

The seven-arm octopus grows to about 12 feet long and weigh up to 165 pounds.Despite the name, it has eight arms. In the males, one is kept in a sac beneath the eye, according to Scientific American.

Donald Trump Aces Keith Olbermann’s Screening Test For Psychopaths

Keith Olbermann used Donald Trump’s own words and actions to score the president on a sanity test. And the results were… scary.

In his latest clip for GQ’s “The Resistance” series, Olbermann claimed that Trump achieved a 32 out of 40 on the Hare Psychopathy Checklist.

“The threshold for probably being a psychopath is 30 points,” said Olbermann, adding Trump may“still finish life as high as 36 points, since two of his questions pertain to criminal record and violation of parole, and there’s plenty of time for him on both.”

Olbermann used the checklist ― a clinical tool that helps to diagnose psychopathy ― to conduct a similar assessment on Trump in July 2016. The then-presidential candidate scored equally high numbers. The difference between then and now?

“In a president, the problem escalates to, you know, the possible end of the world,” Olbermann said.

Moonwalker Alan Bean Says Aliens Haven’t Visited Earth

Only 12 individuals from Earth have been fortunate enough to actually walk on the surface of another world ― specifically, our moon.

The historic manned lunar landing in July 1969 gave us Apollo 11’s first moonwalkers, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, followed four months later by Apollo 12’s Pete Conrad and Alan Bean leaving their footsteps on Earth’s natural satellite.

Lunar module pilot Bean, now 85, became the fourth man to set foot on the moon, and he continued with the space program as a spacecraft commander on the 59-day Skylab Mission II, in 1973. He was later named backup commander for the 1975 joint American-Russian Apollo-Soyuz test flight.

When Bean retired from NASA in 1981, he became an excellent artistwho paints the experiences of fellow astronaut-moonwalkers.

Bean’s spacefaring experiences have given him plenty of time to think about the question of whether earthlings are alone in the universe, and specifically, whether aliens have discovered us.

“I do not believe that anyone from outer space has ever visited the Earth,” Bean told the Australian news site news.com.au. “One of the reasons I don’t believe they have been here is that civilizations that are more advanced are more altruistic and friendly ― like Earth, which is better than it used to be ― so they would have landed and said, ‘We come in peace and we know from our studies you have cancer that kills people, we solved that problem 50 years ago, here’s the gadget we put on a person’s chest that will cure it, we will show you how to make it.’

“Just like someday, say, 1,000 years from now, when we can go to another star and see a planet, that’s what we would do, because we will know how to cure cancer, cure birth defects, so we would teach them.”

Bean doesn’t think that we’re alone in the vast expanse of planets.

“There’s so many billions of stars, and these stars have planets around them, so there must be statistically many planets around many stars that have formed life,” he said.

But this raises the question of how Bean could assume that, if aliens have landed here, they would automatically offer to help with our problems. We can’t simply expect an extraterrestrial species to think the way we do, or to understand our thoughts and motivations. And why would he presume that when we are eventually able to travel to other planets, we would go out of our way to help aliens we may find with their problems?

Bean has obviously never heard of the United Federation of Planets prime directive, which forbids Starfleet explorers from interfering with any ET cultures.

Seriously, let’s be fair. Bean was a very accomplished astronaut and is certainly entitled to his opinion. And so is another, well-known astronaut.

In 2009, Apollo 14 moonwalker Edgar Mitchell spoke at a National Press Club news conference about UFOs and the possibility that Earth has been visited by extraterrestrials.

”I don’t have firsthand experience with the ET effort, except the fact that I know there is no doubt we are being visited and I’m suggesting it is now time to put away this embargo of truth about the alien presence, and I call upon our government to open up,” Mitchell told the media.

A year earlier, Mitchell, who died in 2016, appeared on a British radio show, where he proclaimed he was “privileged enough to be in on the fact that we have been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomenon is real, although it’s been covered up by our governments for the last 60 years or so. There’s more nonsense out there about this than there is real knowledge. I have been deeply involved in certain committees and research programs with very credible scientists and intelligence people that do know the real inside story, and I am not hesitant to talk about it.”

Mitchell was an Apollo astronaut whose opinion on whether aliens have been to Earth was the complete opposite of Bean’s. He showed the importance of keeping an open mind about what’s real and what isn’t.

Just because an accomplished astronaut makes a claim about a controversial issue like UFOs or aliens doesn’t make it the truth.

7 Signs A Marriage Won’t Last, According To Sex Therapists

Sex isn’t everything in a marriage, but for most people,a healthy, regular sex life matters quite a bit.

Sex therapists can vouch for that.Below, they share seven issues that can ruin a relationship if left unaddressed.

1. The couple no longer has sex.

Surprisingly, you can be in asexless marriage and still have sex. Therapists define a sexless relationship as one in which the couple are physically intimateless than 10 times a year.

In most sexless marriages, the absence of any physical connection divides couples, saidSari Cooper, certified sex therapist and host of the web show Sex Esteem.

“Partners end up alienating each other on a very deep, very primal and sometimes emotional level,” she told The Huffington Post. “Very frequently the couple not only avoids sex, but the discussion of the problem itself. That only leads to a further sense of isolation and loneliness for the partners.”

When couples in sexless marriages come to Cooper’s office, she helps them broach the discussion without placing the blame on one person in particular.

“The sexually frustrated partner needs to ‘break the ice’ and let their S.O. know how much they miss them,” she said. “That’s a much better approach than arguing or blaming the other.”

2.One partner doesn’t feel sexually desired.

Feeling wanted and desired is a huge turn-on, especially for women. As sex researcher Marta Meana once put it in an interview with the New York Times, for women,“being desired is the orgasm.”When a partner fails to reassure a woman of her desirability, their sex life naturally takes a hit, saidLaura Watson,a sex therapist and the co-host of the sex advice podcast Foreplay.

“Resolving the issue is all about exploring expectations. You have to consider how intimate couple time can lead to better and more sex,” she said. “It also doesn’t hurt to make sure your partner is getting good sex with plenty of orgasms so she’llwant to do it.”

3. There’s a breakdown in intimacy after an affair.

Broken trust after an affair can be a hard thing to mend and your sex life will take even longer to restore, Cooper said.

“It takes a lot of effort and work by the unfaithful partner to re-establish trust. Meanwhile, the betrayed partner needs to better understand what led to the affair,” she said.“Often, the couple needs to create a new sexual contract of sorts, that addresses the needs that were not being met or hidden.

If the unfaithful partner continues to have contact with the other man or woman in secret, it may be impossible to repair the emotional and erotic bond, Cooper said.

4. There’s no physical attraction.

In long-term couples, waning sexual attraction can do a number on the relationship, saidMoushumi Ghose, asex therapist and author ofClassic Sex Positions Reinvented.

“Sometimes, it’s a matter of one spouse letting themselves go,” she said. “Obviously, life happens and the daily stressors of work, marriage, and having a family can take its toll, but people who are no longer physically attracted to their partner sometimes take it as a sign that their partner has given up on themselves and their relationship.”

5. Physical barriers to sex become a scapegoat.

There are plenty of physical and health-related reasons couples stop having sex, from premature ejaculationanderectile dysfunction, to pain during intercoursefor women.

These problems should be addressed with a doctor, but there’s usually some emotional work that needs to be done by the couple as well, saidCeleste Hirschman,a sex therapist and the co-author ofMaking Love Real: The Intelligent Couple’s Guide to Lasting Intimacy and Passion.

“When these functional problems end up being blamed for all the sexual problems ― and sometimes, problems in the relationship in general ― it blocks the couples ability to discuss their sexual and emotional needs,” she said. “Couples need to see beyond the dysfunction and look at the dynamic that’s been created around it, like fear of being undesirable or blaming the other person for everything.”

6. Sexual interests and fetishes are laughed off.

We all want different things: When your partner opens up about how they want rough sex or to role play, the worse thing you can do is disregard it or laugh it off, said Ava Cadell, a sex therapist and author ofNeuroLoveology: The Power to Mindful Love & Sex.

“I tell my clients that everything is negotiable, even in the bedroom,” she said. “If one partner enjoys BDSM and the other is not that into it but wants something else, I recommend they each share three romantic fantasies and make one a reality for the other.”

From there, continue to share your sexual fantasies and boundaries without any fear of judgement or rejection, Cadell said.

7. There’s a desire discrepancy.

Many couples suffer froma “desire discrepancy,”a situation where one partner wants sex more than the other. This poses a big problem for most couples because the lower-desire spouse holds all the control of the couple’s sex life, whether they realize it or not. Eventually, the higher-desire spouse grows resentful, saidMeganFleming, a psychologist and sex therapist in New York City.

“Sex mismatches are at risk for affairs and divorce if not addressed, since the more sexual partner often can’t imagine living the rest of their lives this way,” she told HuffPost.“After all, they committed to a marriage, not a life of abstinence.”

Don’t wait until your partner is at their wits’ end before addressing the issue.

“The good news is that reasons for low desire are complex but treatable,”Fleming said.

5-Year-Old Suspended For Pretending Stick Is A Gun On Playground

A 5-year-old girl in North Carolina has been stuck with a suspension after she pretended a stick was a gun during recess.

Caitlin Miller said she was playing her favorite game, “King and Queens,” with two friends when the incident happened.

She was the palace guard and protected her royal charges by pretending a stick she found on the playground was a gun, according to local outlet WTVD.

North Carolina mom says her 5-year-old daughter was suspended from school for playing with a stick resembling a gun: https://t.co/UkgXlMFxg8 pic.twitter.com/VX7Rlsd704

— Good Morning America (@GMA) March 29, 2017

”Chloe was the queen and Jaslin was the princess, I was the guard and Jaslin was rude to me and told the teacher on me,” Caitlin told Reuters.

Officials for the Hoke County School District said Caitlin made a shooting motion with the stick and thus posed a threat.

“The assistant principal told me Caitlin had a stick and she was using it to shoot and kill other students,” her mother, Brandy Miller, told Fox.

The school released this statement to WTVD:

School board policy 4331 states that Hoke County Schools will not tolerate assaults, threats or harassment from any student. Any student engaging in such behavior will be removed from the classroom or school environment for as long as is necessary to provide a safe and orderly environment for learning.

Caitlin was back in school on Tuesday, but her mother is having trouble explaining the reason for the suspension.

“I mean, we know why it’s bad because we watch the news, but then I have to tell my kid you’re not allowed to play like that in school because people do bad things to kids your age,” Miller told WTVD.”I just want them to apologize to her and tell her that it’s OK. You can be five and have an imagination.”

School suspensions for things that aren’t weapons but look like them is unusual, but it happens more than you might think.

Last May, a kindergartener in Brighton, Colorado, was suspended for wielding a bubble-blowing “gun” at recess.

In March 2015, a 6-year-old in Colorado Springs had the same thing happen when he pointed his index finger like a gun at a classmate while saying, ‘You’re dead.’”

And in March 2013, a 7-year-old in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, was suspended for nibbling a breakfast pastry into the shape of a pistol.

Puking Statue Will Make You Feel Sick — But You Need To Look

Ah, a day at the beach. Blue skies. A balmy breeze. Sand between your toes. And a seagull puking its brains out because it’s ingested far too many plastic bits.

Famed marine sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor created this figure as part of a larger installation meant to convey a sense of urgency about the amount of plastic debris in the world’s oceans.

Taylor partnered with the nonprofit Greenpeace to erect his disturbing installation in central London this week.

The full work, called “Plasticide,” sits outside of the Royal National Theater. In addition to the vomiting seagull, the installation depicts a family of four enjoying a regular day at the beach. There are several other birds in the piece, and several other colorful piles of plastic ― presumably the other birds have already puked and moved on to find more garbage.

Each year,8 million tons of plasticwind up in the ocean.By 2050, we’ll have more plastic than fish in our waters. This will lead to a number of deleterious consequences, including birds mistaking plastic for edible food. Studies have found that 90 percent of seabirds have plastic in their stomachs.

Among the pieces of debris one of the “Plasticide” seagulls has vomited is a cap from a Coke bottle. Beverage companies are a huge contributor to the current marine crisis, a Greenpeace UK report released earlier this month concluded.

While the major soft drink companies have committed to producing bottles that are recyclable, that’s not actually a sustainable solution. Just because something’s recyclable, doesn’t mean the user is going to deposit it in the appropriate bin.

One solution the environmental group has proposed is for beverage companies to manufacture bottles made entirely from recycled plastic. This will help reduce the amount of wasted materials entering the oceans, and cut down on the amount of entirely new bottles being produced.

“The build-up of a man-made material like plastic in the vast expanse of our seemly untouched oceans is a visceral reminder of humankind’s devastating impact on our environment,” deCaires Taylor said in a statement.

“I want to bring this message back to home: our oceans, and the marine life which inhabits them, literally can’t stomach any more plastic,” he added.

Tetris Could Reduce Traumatic Memories

Playing Tetris could help reduce the chances of people suffering long-term mental effects from traumatic events according to a study.

Professor Emily Holmes of Karolina Institutet in Sweden led a multi-national research team and ran a study to test the concept. The thinking was that playing Tetris is so absorbing for visual memory that it could reduce the intensity of the memories formed about the trauma, in turn reducing the likelihood of vivid flashbacks.

The study involved 71 patients at an emergency department  who had witnessed or been involved in a motor vehicle accident that “involved actual or threatened death or serious injury.” They were split into two groups (balanced for age, gender and the severity of the risk they had personally faced in the accident) with one group asked to play Tetris for at least 10 minutes uninterrupted (and preferably 20 minutes) on a Nintendo DS at some point in the six hours after the accident. Follow-up interviews with both groups found those who’d played the game “recorded significantly fewer intrusive memories” than those in the control group.

Holmes and her colleagues say this limited test was a proof-of-concept and that future studies could look at the longer-term effects on flashbacks as well as the effects of the patients playing for longer or having multiple sessions with the game.

Gay Porn Star Is Donating $250 From Every Scene To Gay-Straight Alliances

A gay adult film star is setting an important example of how to be an ally by donating $250 he earns from every sce he shoots to the Gay-Straight Alliance network.

Markie Moore of Next Door Studios made the announcement Saturday morning at The Phoenix Forum, a trade show for adult online entertainment, in Tempe, Arizona. The adult entertainer, who originally hails from Colorado and previously announced his retirement, told the audience that not only had he decided not to retire, but he wanted to donate a portion of his salary from that point forward for queer youth.

“I’ve always felt a calling within myself to help people ― especially those who can’t necessarily help themselves,” Moore told the crowd.“And over the years it’s only gotten stronger, this feeling. And I thought that I had to subtract myself from the adult industry to make this happen. So I took some time to reflect and I realized that this is the very industry that changed my life for the better. Being more confident, comfortable with who I am, comfortable with my sexuality. So I’ve decided not to retire and from this point forward I will be donating $250 from every scene to the GSA network ― the Gay-Straight Alliance network.”

Moore then went on to say that he thinks what LGBTQ people need now more than ever is love and support.

“[The GSA is] a charity that organizes clubs within middles schools and high schools for LGBTQ youth, giving them a safe place to learn, a comfortable place to socialize and avoid that hate ― and just to grow,” he continued. “I believe we just need to love each other. Just be kind.”
